The food fight (kinda)

The story began in California, in a city called San Francisco. There are about a million people living there, doing what they do every day. Going to work, getting stuck in traffic, and dealing with the house bills. Yes, life in the city was completely normal. Well, almost. The story began in a small cafe on the corner of the street.

The cafeteria, once quiet, was filled with angry growls and hisses of the dark hybrids crashing through the windows. “Find them! Do not let them escape,” yowled a dark human-snake. The students screamed as they struggled to get away from the dark hybrids, knocking into each other. Leo growled, looking at Maya, asking her what to do. Maya nodded. “Attack,” she whispered. Leo and Lily sprinted toward the dark hybrids, with Maya close behind. Leo leaped at a skinny dark hybrid that was about to swipe its claws at a group of students who were trapped in a corner. His claws were out and gleaming just as his spotted ears appeared. He knocked the hybrid away from the students, then he pinned it down. The cornered students gasped as they saw Leo. “Is that Leo?” one of them whispered. Leo ignored them; he bared his teeth at the struggling hybrid. “Stay away from them!” he growled, biting down into the hybrid’s shoulder. The hybrid screamed and started clawing at Leo’s head. Leo didn’t even flinch; he bit down again before releasing the dark hybrid. The dark hybrid howled in pain as it raced outside. Leo spun around, facing the students, his muzzle dripping with blood. “Follow me! I’ll get you out of here,” he explained, whipping his tail back and forth, beckoning them to follow him. They scrambled after him as he ran toward the cafeteria’s door. Lily and Maya were fighting a large human-wolf; the wolf swiped his claws at Maya’s side, causing blood to well up and stain her grey fur. Lily yowled as the wolf bit her paw, leaving a bite mark. Lily hissed and grabbed the wolf’s back, biting him fiercely. Maya was about to help her sister when she saw Bruce. Bruce was pinned against the wall by a dark human-fox that was about to plunge a dagger into his throat. Maya howled as she leaped at the fox, knocking him down. Bruce stared at her in shock as she scored her claws onto the fox’s belly. The fox pushed his hind legs onto Maya’s belly, and Maya flew off. The fox leaped up to his feet, hissing and spitting. Maya stood up, and the fox leaped at her, baring his fangs at her. Maya barely had time to react when the fox sank his teeth into her throat. Maya screamed as she tried to get him off. The fox released his bite, and he reared his head back, ready to finish her off with the killing bite. Then an orange blur appeared, knocking the dark human-fox off her. It was an orange human-fox, his yellow eyes burning like the sun, as more hybrids burst into the room with daggers and swords. He dragged the dark fox away from her and sank his dagger into the fox’s throat. The fox jerked for a moment and then went still, its eyes glazed over. The orange fox drew out the dagger and went back to Maya. “Maya! Are you okay?” he asked, looking down at her with worried eyes. Maya coughed, her throat bleeding badly. But she stood up and faced him. “Zeve. I’m okay. What are you doing here?” she asked, her voice hoarse. “One of my soldiers saw the dark hybrids use my portal that I made; that’s how they got here,” he explained, his ears flattened against his head. “We chased after them, and we saw them attacking this school. I heard you yowling inside the building. I told my soldiers to attack them, but not to harm the hairless creatures,” he said, glancing at Bruce. “They’re called humans, you fur-ball. And watch out!” Maya explained, stumbling to her feet. Zeve spun around, and claws swiped across his forehead, blood blinding his eyes for a moment. Zeve shook his head, blinking his eyes as they cleared. There was a large black human-cheetah standing in front of him, ready to swipe at him again. Maya leaped forward, ignoring the pain in her neck as she bared her teeth. She clamped her teeth into the cheetah’s tail, shaking it. The cheetah yowled as it ripped its tail away from her grip, growling furiously. Meanwhile with Lily, she was helping an injured teenager go to safety when a human-badger appeared out of nowhere, knocking her off her feet. “Run! Keep going,” Lily screamed to the teenager as she struggled under the weight of the badger. The teenager looked at Lily and nodded, his eyes wide with fear, as he ran out of the room. “You have been one naughty kitty. Varian wants you alive with the princess, but I think that you will be more useful if you are dead,” he growled, his short tail whacking the ground. “Get off of her, Stumpytail. I’ll deal with her,” growled a dark tiger with gray stripes that appeared from the mist of the battle. The badger growled at the dark tiger; the tiger didn’t flinch. “Do you really want to deal with my claws?” he asked, staring straight into the badger’s eyes. The badger looked away from the tiger’s piercing eyes and mumbled, “Fine, you can have her, Kai.” Then he raced off into the battle. Lily panted as she rose up to face Kai. They stared at each other for a long moment. Then Kai spoke. “Lily? Is that you?” he asked, his eyes softening as he met her gaze. Lily’s heart quickened as she looked at him. “Carson? Is that really you?” she gasped. “Aye. It’s me. My real name is Kai. I heard your scream and came running. I thought you were a normal human; instead, you were the ones we had been chasing,” he explained, his ears flattening in disbelief. Lily nodded, clearly feeling the same thing. “I… I don’t want to hurt you,” he confessed. “You are my friend, and my only friend. But my leader is going to kill me if I don’t do it.” Lily nodded, feeling something that wasn’t there before. But before she spoke, Kai turned away from her and went through a broken window. Lily was about to follow him when she heard Leo yowling in pain. She spun around and raced toward the cry. She clawed a dark human-falcon and bit a dark human-snake before reaching Leo, who was being attacked by a human-wolverine. Leo was bleeding everywhere, and one of his back legs was dragging. He let out another scream as the human-wolverine slammed his claws into Leo’s side, leaving a huge gash. Lily growled and leaped in front of him, baring her teeth. “Stay away from my brother,” she growled. The dark wolverine stopped swiping his claws and started to back away, clearly not wanting to fight a huge human-tigress. Lily turned around to check on Leo. Leo was struggling to stay up, despite his wounded leg. He tried to hiss, but instead he collapsed into a heap. “Leo!” Lily explained, scrambling over to him. Leo was breathing heavily, his eyes closed. Lily quickly grabbed his shoulders and dragged him to the exit that the students had escaped through. She realized that Leo was heavy, and she was about to give in when another pair of hands grabbed Leo’s legs. Lily looked up and saw Bruce, his hair ruffled and one of his eyes swollen. “Come on, let’s get him to safety. I owe your sister my life,” he exclaimed. Lily nodded, and with Bruce’s help, they carried Leo out of the cafeteria and into the hallway. The hallway was filled with frightened students and teachers, some of them crying. They watched Lily and Bruce set Leo on the ground against the wall, then one of the teachers spoke. “Bruce?! What are you doing? Why are you helping the dangerous creatures?” he asked, looking at Leo. Lily ignored the teacher. “Is Chem here?” she asked the crowd. Nobody spoke. Then a human-fox with a white coat splattered in chemicals appeared from the crowd. He had crystal blue eyes, and one of his ears was floppy. He strolled over to Lily and looked at Leo. “What happened to him? It looks like he put up a good fight,” asked the fox as he opened his brown bag that was slung over his shoulder. “He was attacked by a dark human-wolverine, Chem. He was lucky that I arrived in time to stop the killing blow. Will he be okay?” Lily asked, her tail twitching in worry. “Looks like he got a pretty bad bite on his hind leg. He’ll need some blue moss to draw out any dirt and catmint to relieve him from the pain,” Chem explained as he placed blue moss onto Leo’s injured leg, pressing it onto the bite mark. Leo let out a painful moan as the moss did its work. “Here, Leo, chew on this. This will help you to recover,” Chem mumbled as he placed a few green leaves near Leo. Leo lifted his head and took a bite of the green leaves, his ears twitching. “This is Chem. He’s our light army medic,” Lily explained to Bruce. Chem turned to Bruce and looked at his swollen eye. “That looks pretty bad, lad. Here, put this on your eye,” he said as he pulled out a purple flower petal. “This is a morning reliever; it releases a special chemical that helps your swollen eye go down. Put it on your eye for a few minutes, and that should help,” he explained as he handed it to Bruce. Bruce took it and put it on his eye. “Chem, if you don’t mind, can you check on the other students? You might want to take Bruce with you, so the students won’t be afraid of you,” Lily said as she nudged Leo to eat more of the green leaves. Chem nodded and beckoned Bruce to follow him. Chem and Bruce walked to the nearest group of students. “Hey, guys, do you have any injuries? This is Chem, and he is a medic. He’ll help you,” Bruce said as he reached the group. “Is he going to hurt us? Who are those creatures?” a boy asked, who was hugging an older girl. “I’m a Tiere Leben creature; we lived on a different planet. And I’m not going to hurt you. I want to make sure you are okay,” Chem said as he walked up to the boy. The boy sniffed and looked at Bruce, who nodded. The boy let go of the girl and went to Chem. Chem looked at the boy’s body, looking for any sign of injuries. “You have a bad cut on your hand and a bruise on your forehead, but nothing too serious,” he mumbled as he brushed his tail past the boy’s face. The boy laughed as the tail tickled his face. “Here, let me see your hand,” Chem explained as he gently took the boy’s hand into his. He took out a jar with green slime. “This is glow slime; this might sting a bit, but that’s nothing to a brave boy like you,” he said as he spread the slime over the boy’s hand. The boy winced but stayed quiet as Chem wrapped his hand in bandages. “There! Good as new,” he mumbled, turning his head to the other students. “Is anyone else hurt?” he asked, narrowing his eyes. No one said a word for a few seconds. Then a teenage boy spoke. “I think I got a sprained ankle while I was running away from the mean creatures,” he explained, wincing as he moved his ankle around. Chem walked up to him and glanced at his ankle. “You’ll live; it’s just a bad sprain. I should give you Catmint to relieve the pain,” he mumbled, placing some leaves in the teenager’s hand. “I’m supposed to eat this?! Isn’t this for cats?” he asked. Chem looked at him sternly; the teenager gulped nervously and quickly ate the Catmint. “Good lad. That should be enough to dull the pain for a while,” Chem mumbled. Then the cafeteria’s doors flew open, and Maya and Zeve walked into the hallway, their fur covered in blood. Zeve’s army followed behind them, many of them with wounds. “Ashpaw, where are you?” Chem growled as he rushed to Maya’s side, who had collapsed onto the floor. A young human-ferret girl with a mossy dress scrambled over to him, her left leg dragging a bit. “Go out and find some cattail’s moss. It’s skinny, and it has small light green leaves. Try to find some long ones,” Chem explained to her as he looked at the wound on Maya’s neck. Ashpaw nodded and quickly walked outside. “We need to stop the bleeding. Sir! Do you have any clean rags I can use?” he asked, turning his head to a teacher. The teacher nodded, clearly still in shock, and he raced away. Zeve walked up to Lily, panting heavily. “We drove them away, but I believe that they will come back again soon,” he said, licking the wounds on his arm. “Did we lose anyone in this battle?” Lily asked. Zeve stopped licking and stared at her. “We lost Dustpaws, Zucchi, and three others. I sent out a group of my soldiers to scout around the area and scare away any dark hybrids that might be hiding,” he said, glancing around. Then a young boy with brown hair came up to them. “Is Leo here? Is he okay?” he asked. Zeve looked at Lily. “Leo’s over there, Luke. He’s resting near the lockers,” Lily said, pointing at the lockers. The boy nodded and ran to the lockers. She looked at Zeve, who turned his head sideways, confused. “That’s Luke. He is Leo’s closest friend here,” Lily explained, rolling her eyes. Then they saw Ashpaw coming back in, her paws full of green leafy moss as she ran over to Chem. At the same time, the teacher came back with the rags. Lily noticed that the teacher’s eyes were full of tears, and she immediately knew that something was wrong. “I got them, Chem! A whole bunch,” Ashpaw exclaimed as she placed them near him. Chem pawed at the moss and nodded. “Very good. Now wrap them around Maya’s neck, not too tight though! We’ll leave them there for a few hours,” he said as he turned to the teacher and accepted the rags. Lily walked over to them and stood next to Chem. “Sir. What’s wrong?” she asked. The teacher lifted his head, his eyes red and wet. He looked at them, and then he started to cry. “Miss Herdson is dead!” he cried out.
